Lot 2008 LEONARD MEWS FULL STOCK '03 SPRINGFIELD CARBINE

WITH SCOPE. Cal. 350 Rem. Mag. S# 4015294 (found under front scope base). The 20" lightweight sporter barrel is fitted with Thompson center adjustable rear sight and silver bead front in short ramp. Caliber is at left rear. Bottom is stamped "Douglas by P.B. Cain 122966" (date). 03A3 Springfield action has been drilled and tapped on receiver ring for Leupold scope base. Rear bridge is altered with added piece to neatly match. Bolt has engine turned body, swept handle with pear shaped knob checkered on bottom and M70 type safety installed on shroud. A Timney trigger is fitted. Bottom metal has had trigger guard bow thinned and shaped and is gold inlaid with some flush wire borders. The letters "FXD" are on bow. Full length stock (Leonard Mews signature in barrel channel) made of finely fiddle figured French walnut measures 13-3/4" over black Decelerator pad and features Monte Carlo comb, swept right hand shadow line cheekpiece, flared grip with rosewood cap having checkered diamond on bottom, metal forend tip and sling eyes. Checkering is in Mews skip-line multi-point pattern and, as usual, exceptionally well done. Carbine is mounted with Leupold Vari-XIII 1.5-5 scope with duplex reticle in Leupold rings and has lens cover. CONDITION: very fine showing moderate field use. Metal retaining nearly all custom blue. Bolt knob shows some rusting. There are a fair number of scratches and marks in original stock finish, some fairly heavy on cheekpiece. Bore is bright, sharp and shiny. Action is smooth. Mechanically fine. Scope is fine with marks on exterior; optically clear. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6494/MGM). CURIO. $2,250-3,500.
